No-Shows Continue to Impact Restauranteurs in Quebec

Quebec Restaurants Push for No-Show Protection and Reservation Reform

Restaurants in Quebec say they are losing an average of $50,000 annually because of no-shows. They want to be compensated when customers don’t honor a table reservation, and have the ability to protect their business similar to hotels and other service industries in Quebec.

Recently, Quebec’s Hotel Association (AHQ) added its voice to the ongoing no-shows conversation, lobbying the government to change the current rules and allow restaurants in Quebec to charge a non-reimbursable deposit when taking reservations.

CBC/Radio-Canada spoke with Libro’s own Stuart Lachovsky to better understand the negative effects restaurateurs experience when customers simply don’t show up. Is it okay for diners to be protected, while Quebec restaurants reap the consequences?
